The role of prevention is to create healthy communities in which people have a high quality of life, including:
-healthy environments at work and in school
-supportive communities and neighborhoods
-connections with families and friends
-communities free of substance abuse and mental health problems
The Oklahoma Department of Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services uses the Strategic Prevention Framework to plan and implement effective prevention services. The framework is built on a community-based risk and protective factors approach to prevention - to reduce risk and increase protection.
