Trauma is simply exposure to any traumatic situation or event that overwhelms your ability to cope.

What is Trauma Informed?

While there are multiple trauma specific programs, being trauma informed is more about creating culture.  The goal is to create a system that understands the physical, mental, and emotional impacts of trauma, and consequently provides trauma sensitive services to everyone.  From the way chairs are positioned in the lobby, to understanding how certain behaviors are linked to traumatic experiences; a trauma informed culture creates a safe environment for people to journey towards recovery.  

ODMHSAS and Trauma Informed Treatment and Services:

The Oklahoma Department of Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services has been layering in and building a foundation of trauma informed services and trauma specific treatment for the past several years.
