In 2006 The Governors Transformation Advisory Board (GTAB) requested the Tribal State Relations Workgroup be formed. This workgroup informed the GTAB on Tribal issues as they related to mental health and substance abuse transformation.

Today, this workgroup continues as a collaboration that coordinates and exchanges information related to mental health and substance abuse services and needs between tribal and other American Indian organizations. This workgroup also provides guidance related to opportunities, barriers, and emerging issues that relate to this population.
