The Beginning Teacher Performance Standards (BTPS) provide a framework for looking at beginning teaching and are based on the Oklahoma Professional Teaching Competencies. The competencies are defined by four developmental levels:
Each level identifies teacher and student behaviors that are typical for teachers at that developmental level. The developmental scales provide a context or basis for reflection on performance and a tool for self-reflection. The scales are designed to provide a common way of looking at beginning teaching for beginning teachers and those who support them.
