Valerie Thompson, PhD Biography
Dr. Thompson received a doctorate in Political Science and a Master of Business Administration from the University of Oklahoma. Her research has focused on evaluation practices for nonprofit organizations. She also has a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from Oklahoma State University.
Dr. Thompson has received numerous awards and accolades including the 2004 Omega Phi Psi Fraternity local and District Citizen of the Year, the 1999 Minority Advocate of the Year award from the Oklahoma City Small Business Administration district office, and was selected in 1997 by Metro Journal in Oklahoma City as one of “Forty People to Watch Under Forty”. In October 2002, she was listed in the Oklahoma Gazette as one of the most powerful women in Oklahoma City. She has lectured for the University of Oklahoma Carl Albert Center’s New Leadership Program, Oklahoma State University’s diversity series, and the National Whitney M. Young Center for Urban Leadership. She serves on a host of boards and advisory committees including the following: the half billion-dollar City of Oklahoma City MAPS Trust Board, JPMorganChase National Advisory Board, Leadership Oklahoma City, Rotary International (Club 29), National Urban League Association of Executives Executive Committee, and the Oklahoma Commission on Women.. She is also a member of the OSU Black Alumni Association, OU Black Alumni Association, and Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.
Dr. Thompson resides in Oklahoma City with her husband Warren and their 12 year-old daughter, Maya Rae.
