Deena K. Fisher
Dr. Deena K. Fisher was appointed to the Oklahoma Commission on the Status of Women in 2009 by Governor Brad Henry. She had previously been active as an OCSW Advisory Council member and served as Co-Chair of the 2008 Oklahoma Women's Summit. She is the 2011 - 2012 Vice Chairperson of the Commission. Dr. Deena K. Fisher, Dean of the Woodward Campus of Northwestern Oklahoma State University and Professor of History, holds an Ed.D. in Higher Education Administration (OSU) and an M.Ed in History Education and School Counseling (SWOSU). She has served on the Oklahoma Historical Society Board since 2004 and in 2011, was named to the Oklahoma Historical Society Executive Board. In 2006, Dr.Fisher attended the "Institute for Management and Leadership in Higher Education" at Harvard Graduate School of Education. She is a contributing editor and developed the teacher/student material for the history textbook, Oklahoma-Land of Contrast (Clairmont Press, 2006). She coordinates a week-long Oklahoma History Summer Institute sponsored by Northwestern Oklahoma State University, Museum of the Cherokee Strip in Enid, and Plains Indians and Pioneers Museum in Woodward. She has twice been recognized by the Journal Record as one of the "50 Women Making A Difference in the State of Oklahoma". Fisher serves on several boards including, Oklahoma's Historical Society, Plains Indians and Pioneers Museum, Rotary, William S. Key Correctional Citizen Advisory Board, Oklahoma Council for the Social Studies, Woodward Industrial Foundation, Woodward Chamber of Commerce, and Psi Chapter of the Delta Kappa Gamma. Fisher is married, has four children, and four grand-children. She enjoys visiting historical sites and museums. Last Modified on 05/02/2012
