Ward 6 - Cindy Williams

Cindy_Williams.jpg

A message from Cindy . . .

As a child growing up in our sleepy little town, it was tend the garden, feed the livestock and gather eggs, what a way to grow up. I didn’t think at the time it would do me a bit of good as an adult, but boy was I wrong. It taught me to garden, work the land and appreciate the small things in life.

Now, as an adult, I have a wonderful life with my husband Randy.  He and I have lived at our place for 9 years. I never thought as a child I’d stay here, much less be happy living here. Again I was wrong. It’s the perfect place to live. Of course it’s not without problems, but where isn’t?

I work at Nicoma Park Lumber three days a week and tend the land just like I did as a child. I work hard and worry a lot, play and pray. I’m content with the life God has set out for me.

With a foot in the past, I now have a hand in the future. In May, I was sworn in as Councilmember for Ward 6. I assumed Greg Tirey’s position. I know he worked hard on many issues including the park. I understand that it will take all of us to make a difference and many hours of hard work. I am up to the challenge, how about you?

In our town, the Mayor and City Council govern us, with input from citizens with their concerns and compassion. We can only do so much with limited budgets and help from county to maintain our roads and bridges. It’s up to us to take care of the rest. I know at times it seems the city isn’t doing much, I agree that more could be done. It will take you coming to a city council meeting to bring issues up we don’t know about. I encourage you to come to city council meeting (First Tuesday of the month at City Hall).

We have storm water issues and debris from Decembers’ ice storm troubling our neighborhoods. We have folks that don’t take care of what they work so hard to pay for. Yes, I know several folks don’t clean up their yards, mow or even take trash to the curb for pickup. If that’s you, please do all of us a favor and just try. Our property values and the esteem of our hard work are affected by someone not mowing and caring for their property. It’s an issue brought up several times at each of the city council meetings I have attended. We all pay the price for that, in pride of our city, critters in the tall weeds and then it doesn’t let the storm water flow, leaving breeding grounds for mosquitoes and flies.

I am happy to say I represent Ward 6 and am looking forward to meeting you and helping you in matters that concern you, within my power. Just let me know what I can do, but you have to do some things as well.

I am Cindy Williams, I live at the corner of Nichols and Sewell, my home number is 769.6313 and my e-mail address is aroonie2@cox.net. Please send me an e-mail and include your address and I’ll add you to my address book. What I plan to do is send out a reminder of the city council meetings, including some of the agenda, then send out a report of what happened at the meeting. Again I urge you to attend a meeting.

Thanks for your time, and again I look forward to meeting you in person.

Think back to December when we were hit by the ice storm on the 9th. Most of us were without power or water. We all did what we had to do to keep warm.  We collected rain water to flush toilets and cooked by candle light. It was the time you relied on your neighbor for wood, water or a trip to the grocery store. Try to make some time to go meet your neighbors. Don’t let it come down to a disaster to check in on them. We are all affected by those living around us. Be sure to remember this when it comes time to trim trees, mow your yard or clean up around your place. We all benefit from a community that cares and grows together. You don’t have to spend a lot of money to clean up, mow or make your place look better, just a little bit of hard work. You and I will benefit from it, and so will the neighborhood.
