Thomas J. Knight
Thomas J. Knight, 55, of Edmond, Okla., passed suddenly on Sunday, August 24, 2014, in Delta, Colo., of natural causes. Son of Hobart Jay Knight and Lenora Ann Knight, Tom was born August 30, 1958 in Wichita, Kan. He married Kimberly Sprague of Marion, Ill., in 1985. He graduated from Paonia High School in Paonia, Colo., in 1976. He received his Bachelor of Science degree in Mining Engineering from Colorado School of Mines in 1982. Upon graduation, Tom worked with Kerr McGee Corporation and later with Abbottsfield /BP Alaska. He currently worked as a consultant with Hughes Brothers. Tom also currently served as Secretary of the Oklahoma Mining Commission.
Tom was preceded in death by his father, Hobart. Survivors include mother Lenora Knight of Paonia, Colo.; wife, Kimberly; son, Ryan Thomas Knight and Cynthia Sun; daughter, Stephanie Dawn Knight and fiancee Evan Dunning all of Edmond; brother Dr. Denis Knight, wife Ginna and children James, Christopher, Charity, DeDe, Acacia, Alonzo, and Novian of Wichita; sister Jaylene Park, husband Stan and children Garrett, Chase, and Hayley of Paonia, Colo.; father- and mother-in-law Paul and Carole Sprague and sister-in-law Tonja Sprague of Marion, Ill.
A memorial service for Tom was 10 a.m. Saturday, August 30, at the Friends Church in Paonia, Colo., with Gaylen Kinser officiating.
A come-and-go visitation and reception will be 6-8 p.m. Thursday, September 4 at Crawford Family Funeral Service. Graveside services will be 10 a.m. Friday, September 5, 2014 at the Gracelawn Cemetery in Edmond, officiated by Ed Pratt, under the direction of Crawford Family Funeral Service, Edmond.
MEMORIAL SERVICE FOR TOM KNIGHT
Many of us have heard that our longtime friend Tom Knight passed away suddenly on August 24, 2014 in his hometown of Paonia, CO. Tom was so well respected for his many years of effective service with Kerr McGee Coal Corporation and later with Kerr McGee Corporate Safety and Environmental Affairs. Tom was also appointed by the Governor in 2010 to serve on the Oklahoma Mining Commission where he has held the position of Secretary of the Commission for several years. His Obituary as published in the Edmond Sun is printed below. Tom will be greatly missed by his family and his many friends. Tom certainly provided us all with an excellent example of a Life Well Lived.
A Funeral Service was held in Colorado on Saturday August 30, 2014 in the church where he grew up. Plans for Memorial and Remembrance activities in Edmond, OK are as follows:
- VISITATION - Thursday September 4, 2014 from 6-8 PM at Crawford Funeral Home in Edmond. The location is 610 NW 178th St. (2nd St. in Edmond) between Santa Fe and Western on the S. side of 2nd St.
- GRAVESIDE MEMORIAL SERVICE - Friday September 5, 2014 at 10 AM in the NW Quadrant of Gracelawn Cemetery in Edmond located at the NW corner of Boulevard and Danforth near Edmond North High School. The entrance is on Boulevard to the north of Danforth.
- LUNCH RECEPTION following the Graveside Service at 11:15 AM at Quail Springs Baptist Church at 14613 N. May Avenue in OKC located on May Avenue about 1/4 mile north of Kilpatrick Turnpike.
