Frequently Asked Questions

How do I file a complaint against a mining company? Click here for a description of the process.
Will I have the use of my property while it is permitted for mining?  Not usually. If the site has been reclaimed and revegetated, the mining company may apply for a grazing permit which might allow you some use of the property.
Does the Department of Mines have any jurisdiction over county roads? What if I have a complaint about truck traffic? The Department of Mines does not have any control over mining trucks once they leave the permitted area. County commissioners, the Highway Patrol, and other law enforcement agencies have jurisdiction over public roads.
Who is entitled to a pre-blast survey? Why would I want one? Mining companies are required to offer pre-blast surveys to all residents within 1/2 mile of the permit area. Pre-blast surveys provide both the homeowner and the mining company documentation of the condition of your structure before blasting on the mines begins.
