The oil and gas industry is one of the most important segments of Oklahoma's economy. With over 85% of the crude oil production and 10% of the natural gas production in the state being produced from marginal wells, Oklahoma's financial stability is closely tied to that of its marginal petroleum production.

Oklahoma's marginal well operators make up a hardy group of people who  take pride in their contribution to the industry, state and economy. Some of these very individuals played an important role in creating the Commission on Marginally Producing Oil and Gas Wells. They realize an organized approach to saving stripper wells is essential.
