Advisory Commission Membership and Purpose

The Film and Music Advisory Commission was created by the Legislature in 1986 with the primary purpose of providing oversight and direction to the Office of the Oklahoma Film and Music Commission, which has primary responsibility in state government for promoting the state as a location for producing motion pictures, television programs, videos and recording or performing music. 

The Advisory Commission is composed of 11 members appointed by the Director of the Department of Tourism and Recreation and the Lieutenant Governor, who serves as an ex officio member and as Chair of the Advisory Commission. 

Appointed members serve two-year terms.  Five members must have experience with the development and implementation of economic development programs.  Three members must possess broad working knowledge of the film industry and three members must possess broad working knowledge of the music industry.  The members of the Commission are as follows:

Two seats are currently vacant.  One seat was never appointed and another member resigned in Fall 2006.

Advisory Commission Responsibilities

The Advisory Commission is responsible for:

  1. Focusing the functions of the Office of the Oklahoma Film and Music Commission to provide maximum economic benefit to the state;
  2. Promoting the film and music industries to local communities;
  3. Soliciting input annually from the public including industry, business, and community leaders;
  4. Serving as a clearinghouse for the Oklahoma music industry using databases which it develops and maintains;
  5. Promoting Oklahoma music and musicians nationally and internationally;
  6. Assisting in the development of a marketing plan and a production manual; and
  7. Assisting in the preparation of an annual report.
