Council on Firefighter Training (COFT)

The Oklahoma State Legislature created a tax credit incentive for volunteer firefighters who maintain certain levels of training.This tax incentive is offered through the Oklahoma Council on Firefighter Trainer (COFT).Currently, there are two available levels: a $200 and a $400 credit. All volunteer firefighters applying for the first time in 2010, must submit for the $200 credit. Applicants who have previously been awarded the $200 credit may apply for the $400 credit.

Qualifications

    $200 Tax Credit

  • First year applicants for the $200 credit, must have 12 hours of eligible training completed in 2010 or any previous year. 
  • Repeat applicants must have been previously approved for the $200 credit, earned at least 6 hours of continuing education towards the completion of VFFP or an equivalent program by December 31, 2010. 
  • Must be in good standing with the volunteer fire department on which they serve.  

    $400 Tax Credit

  • Applicant must have been previously approved for $200 credit. 
  • Must have completed Volunteer Firefighter Practices Program or equivalent and at least 6 hours of continuing education each year until certified as Firefighter I. 
  • Applicant must be in good standing with volunteer fire department on which they serve and provide documentation from the Fire Chief that applicant has been provided and participated in all annual training as required by federal an state authorities.
