School Security

Overview

The Oklahoma Office of Homeland Security provides training seminars that assist school officials in the planning and preparation for emergency situations. In the last three years, OKOHS has trained approximately 400 school officials representing more than 150 school districts across the state.

During the seminar, OKOHS personnel cover a wide variety of topics with school officials, including the importance of developing, updating and exercising an emergency response plan. Additionally, the training includes instruction for school officials on how to conduct a security survey to help identify and correct any potential security gaps.

Local law enforcement officials are asked to attend in conjunction with school officials from the jurisdiction they represent in order to facilitate coordination in the event of an emergency. Law enforcement officials will receive 16 hours of CLEET Credit for attending.
