Regional Emergency Medical Services System 

Bantum EMS   Medium EMS Unit   Large EMS Unit

Overview

The Regional EMS System (REMSS) program was developed in support of the Homeland Security Regional Response System by providing EMS medical equipment, personnel, and transportation capabilities during major events or disasters. There are currently 33 units strategically placed throughout the state. There are three (3) types of units: the Bantam EMS, the Medium EMS and the Large EMS (from left to right above). 

Capabilities

Bantam EMS Units (16)

  • Medical supplies and equipment capable of treating up to 25 patients
  • Responds with oxygen and backboards  
  • Can be pulled by SUV or pickup

Medium EMS Units (15)

  • Medical supplies and equipment capable of treating 50-100 patients  
  • Units are climate controlled, and contain movable HEARS radios, a generator and outside lighting

Large EMS Units (2)

  • Medical supplies and equipment capable of treating up to 200 patients  
  • Unit deploys with on board 02 generation capability
  • Satellite and interoperable communications
  • Command post

Additional Support

Additional support is provided by the Oklahoma Highway Patrol allowing them to utilize the Emergency Medical Service Unit (EMSU) to augment the Regional DMR teams. These troopers will provide triage, treatment and security assistance during a response. Oklahoma Highway Patrol has assigned 20 troopers to the regional teams.

Ambulance Strike Teams 

  • Five (5) Advanced Life Support (ALS) ground ambulances (an approved vehicle and two personnel each, at least one an ALS provider)
  • One (1) Team Leader with Vehicle
  • ALS Provider could be either a Paramedic or an EMT-I
  • Five (5) Basic Life Support (BLS) ground ambulances (an approved vehicle and two personnel each, both at least EMT-Basic certified)
