FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Contact: Lacey Callahan Oklahoma Office of Homeland Security Names Recipients of 2012 Citizen Corps Grant Program April 23, 2012—The Oklahoma Office of Homeland Security has named the recipients of the 2012 Citizen Corps Grant Program. The program’s funding will help support community initiatives throughout the state in the areas of disaster preparedness, emergency response training, and local volunteerism. “The Citizen Corps Grant Program provides crucial support to Oklahoma agencies for preparation and response to natural disasters,” said Lacey Callahan, Public Affairs Coordinator for OKOHS. “As a state, we continually face severe disasters. Our hope is that through these grants, local emergency response organizations can ultimately improve the lives and well-being of their citizens—making everyone more safe and secure if and when a disaster occurs.” More than $59,000 in funding will be dispersed among the following 2012 recipients: - Norman Citizen Corps According to Callahan, the Citizen Corps Grant Program was developed after 9/11 from the outpour of U.S. communities eager to become involved in emergency preparedness and response.
