Fun and Educational Activities for Everyone!

Oklahoma City (Sept. 2, 2009)— In recognition of National Preparedness Month, the Oklahoma Office of Homeland Security (OKOHS) is presenting fun and educational activities throughout the month of September. Community events sponsored by OKOHS will take place in Oklahoma City, Tulsa and statewide.

SeptemberFest, Oklahoma City Saturday, Sept. 12, 2009 Details:The Oklahoma Office of Homeland Security, in partnership with Radio Disney and multiple volunteer organizations, will play a major role in this annual event at the Governor’s Mansion. Activities will include games incorporating preparedness information for children in attendance; a sing along style concert by the Radio Disney performers and free Ready Oklahoma promotional items.

OKC Ready Kids Week Monday - Friday, Sept. 14-18, 2009 Details: Oklahoma City’s Dunbar Elementary School will participate in a week of fun and educational activities while learning how to prepare for emergencies. The students will celebrate and share what they have learned during the week at a special assembly featuring the Radio Disney “Road Crew”.  The Disney “Road Crew” recreates the energy, music and excitement kids hear on Radio Disney. It’s an interactive, music-filled event!

Tulsa Zoo Enrichment Day, Tulsa Saturday, Sept. 19, 2009 Details: Oklahoma City’s Dunbar Elementary School will participate in a week of fun and educational activities while learning how to prepare for emergencies. The students will celebrate and share what they have learned during the week at a special assembly featuring the Radio Disney “Road Crew”.  The Disney “Road Crew” recreates the energy, music and excitement kids hear on Radio Disney. It’s an interactive, music-filled event!

Be Ready at the Brick, Oklahoma City Tuesday, Sept. 22, 2009 Details: The Oklahoma City Redhawks will host OKOHS and Radio Disney for Be Ready at the Brick during the AAA Championship game.  Radio Disney will bring its performers, games, and other activities and OKOHS will distribute free Ready Oklahoma items to the first 2,000 fans at the game.

Tulsa Ready Kids Week Monday - Friday, Sept. 21-25, 2009 Details: Tulsa’s Owens Elementary School will participate in a week of fun and educational activities while learning how to prepare for emergencies. The students will celebrate and share what they have learned during the week at a special assembly on Friday, Sept. 25 featuring the Radio Disney “Road Crew.” The Disney “Road Crew” recreates the energy, music and excitement kids hear on Radio Disney. It’s an interactive, music-filled event!

Be Ready Sunday/Weekend (statewide) Friday – Sunday, Sept. 25-27, 2009 Details: As an OKOHS National Preparedness Month partner, the Office of Faith Based Initiatives (www.faithlinksok.org) is encouraging faith-based organizations across the state to address the issues of emergency and disaster preparedness with their congregations the last weekend of September.
