Governor Brad Henry has proclaimed September 2008 as National Preparedness Month in Oklahoma. National Preparedness Month is a nationwide effort held each September that promotes three simple steps anyone can take to prepare for emergencies: 1) Get a Kit, 2) Make a Plan and 3) Be Informed. This year, the Oklahoma Office of Homeland Security (OKOHS) is promoting a variety of family friendly activities in September that highlight the importance of preparedness planning. more

DHS Releases National Emergency Communications Plan

The U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has released  the National Emergency Communications Plan (NECP) to address gaps and determine solutions so that emergency response personnel at all levels of government and across all disciplines can communicate as needed, on demand, and as authorized. The NECP is the nation¿s first strategic plan to improve emergency response communications, and complements overarching homeland security and emergency communications legislation, strategies and initiatives. more
