RESOLVE TO BE READY IN 2007 12/11/2006WASHINGTON - As the world counts down to a new year, nearly half of all adults in this country will make at least one New Year's resolution. The U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) is urging Americans to make a resolution that is both important and easy to keep - to prepare themselves, their families and their businesses for emergencies. more
OKLAHOMANS URGED TO PARTICIPATE IN NATIONAL PREPAREDNESS MONTHOklahoma City - Governor Brad Henry has proclaimed September 2006 as OKlahoma National Preparedness Month, part of a nationwide effort held each September to spur Americans to take simple steps to prepare for emergencies in their homes, businesses and schools. The goal of the month is to increase public awareness about the importance of preparing for emergencies and to encourage individuals to take action. "Oklahomans know all too well the destruction that can be caused by disasters, whether they are natural or manmade," Gov. Henry said. "There are simple steps that people and businesses can take to be more prepared in the event of an emergency. I applaud the Oklahoma Office of Homeland Security, and its coalition partners for promoting preparedness efforts statewide." more

Brad Henry today raised the Oklahoma Homeland Security Threat Level from Elevated Condition (¿Yellow¿) to High Condition (¿Orange¿) for the aviation sector, specifically regarding domestic flights operating through Will Rogers World Airport in Oklahoma City and Tulsa International Airport. This decision comes after British authorities arrested 21 extremists accused of plotting to destroy multiple passenger aircraft flying from the United Kingdom to the United States. The application period for AFG began March 6, 2006 at 8 a.m. Eastern Standard Time and ends at 5 p.m. Eastern Daylight Time on April 7, 2006. If you have started an application, please be sure to COMPLETE IT AND SUBMIT IT before the deadline. All applications must be submitting (hit the submit button in the online application) to be considered for a grant award.
