HOMELAND SECURITY ASSISTS EMERGENCY RESPONDERS WITH UNVEILING OF NEW INTERNET COURSE ON AMERICA'S NEW NATIONAL INCIDENT MANAGEMENT SYSTEM (NIMS)

The Department of Homeland Security?s Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) announced a new online course that will help first responders understand the concepts and principles underlying the new National Incident Management System (NIMS) and to begin incorporating NIMS into their own planning and policies. To streamline coordination at the federal, state and local levels, President Bush directed the creation of NIMS, a newly developed, standardized incident management approach to emergency incidents.  more 

 

HOMELAND SECURITY LAUNCHES CRITICAL INFRASTRUCTURE PILOT PROGRAM TO BOLSTER PRIVATE SECTOR SECURITY

The U.S. Department of Homeland Security in partnership with local private sector and the Federal Bureau of Investigation, launched the first Homeland Security Information Network-Critical Infrastructure (HSIN-CI) Pilot Program in Dallas, Texas with locally operated pilot programs in Seattle, Indianapolis and Atlanta to follow. The pilot program will operate throughout the course of this year to determine the feasibility of using this model for other cities across the country.  more

 

HOMELAND SECURITY INFORMATION NETWORK - CRITICAL INFRASTRUCTURE (HSIN-CI)

The Homeland Security Information Network initiative has been expanded to include critical infrastructure owners and operators and the private sector in the cities of Dallas, Seattle, Indianapolis and Atlanta. The Homeland Security Information Network ? Critical Infrastructure (HSIN-CI) Pilot Program is an unclassified network, which immediately provides the Department?s Homeland Security Operations Center with one-stop 24/7 access to a broad spectrum of industries, agencies and critical infrastructure across both the public and private sectors. This conduit for two-way information sharing provides the Department with an expanding base of locally knowledgeable experts and delivers real-time access to needed information.  more

 

HOMELAND SECURITY LEVERAGES NOAA ALL-HAZARDS NETWORK FOR ALERTS AND WARNINGS

The U.S. Department of Homeland Security?s Information Analysis and Infrastructure Protection Directorate and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) of the U.S. Department of Commerce today signed an agreement that allows Homeland Security to send critical all-hazards alerts and warnings directly through the NOAA All-Hazards Network.  more

 

DEPARTMENT OF HOMELAND SECURITY ANNOUNCES ASSISTANCE TO FIREFIGHTERS GRANT TO AID AMERICA'S FIRE DEPARTMENTS

Secretary Tom Ridge today announced the first round of grants to fire departments throughout the United States in the Fiscal Year 2004 Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program.  The grants will ultimately total approximately 8,000 awards worth nearly $750 million in direct assistance to firefighters throughout the country, demonstrating Homeland Security?s commitment to ensuring that America?s firefighters have the resources they need to protect their communities.  more
