NATIONAL FALLEN FIREFIGHTERS MEMORIAL DRAWS VISITORS TO FEMA TRAINING CENTERFEMA announced this week that nearly 4,200 people visited the National Fallen Firefighters' Memorial in 2003, to honor thousands of American heroes. The memorial is located 75 miles from Washington, D.C., at FEMA's National Emergency Training Center. In addition, thousands more training center students and attendees at the annual memorial service also visited the memorial. more
OKLAHOMA HOMELAND SECURITY DIRECTOR NAMEDGovernor Henry tapped Major Kerry Pettingill as Oklahoma Homeland Security Director. Pettingill joined the Oklahoma Highway Patrol in 1982 and was commander of the DPS Tactical Teams Special Operations and Bomb Squads. He was appointed as Deputy Director of Homeland Security in 2002, which included overseeing personnel assigned to the FBI Joint Terrorism Task Force. more
APPLICATION RELEASED FOR 2004-2005 CLASS OF HOMELAND SECURITY SCHOLARS AND FELLOWSThe Science and Technology division released on January 14 an application for the 2004-2005 class of the Homeland Security Scholars and Fellows. This highly competitive program assists in the development and mentoring of the next generation of homeland security scientists and engineers by supporting students pursuing degree programs at America's leading universities. Through internships at homeland security venues, many students will focus their studies in areas that support the Department's mission. more
