NIMS / ICS Training

The EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT INSTITUTE for FEMA Independent Study Programs (ISP) offers self-paced NIMS and Emergency Management courses designed for people who have emergency response and/or management responsibilities. All courses are offered free-of-charge, 24 hours a day, to those who qualify for enrollment.  


Basic NIMS Courses: 

Minimum NIMS training includes IS 700, IS 100, and IS 200.         

IS 700: NIMS, An Introduction

**Note: Take only the most appropriate version of the IS-100 Course** 

IS-100: Introduction to Incident Command System (ICS): General First Responders
IS-100: Introduction to Incident Command System (ICS): Law Enforcement Version
IS-100: Introduction to Incident Command System (ICS): Public Health Version
IS-100: Introduction to Incident Command System (ICS): Public Works Version
IS-100: Introduction to Incident Command System (ICS): School Version
IS-100: Introduction to Incident Command System (ICS): Higher  Education Version

IS-200: Basic ICS 

Basic NIMS Courses for Specific Emergency Management/Response Personnel (Internet Courses):

IS-701: NIMS Multi-Agency Coordination System (MACS) Course
  (Multi Agency Coordinators / Emergency Managers) 
IS-702: National Incident Management System PIO   
(Public Information Officers) 
IS-703: NIMS Resource Management   (Resource Managers, Equipment Officers) 

Advanced NIMS Courses:

The Oklahoma Office of Homeland Security (OKOHS) has partnered with OSU-FST to provide Intermediate and Advanced level NIMS ICS training to Oklahoma's responders.  Available courses can be viewed and registered on the OKOHS Training Calendar or at the links below.  Special courses and scheduling may be available by visiting the Training Calendar or contacting the
OKOHS Assistant Training Coordinator, April Walker by email or at 405-425-7285.

**A minimum of 15 individuals are required for an ICS 300 or 400 level course to be approved**  

You may host a NIMS course at any time by submitting a Course Request Form via email to April Walker at least 6 weeks in advance of the start date to allow adequate time for materials to be produced and instructors to be scheduled.      

Documentation of Training:

Jurisdictions should keep records of employee/volunteer NIMS training.  All individuals who successfully complete a FEMA Basic NIMS Course IMMEDIATELY receives a certificate in their email.  The Jurisdiction's POC can keep records in any format they choose so long as proof of training can be obtained.  

Individual students and/or Department or Agency Supervisors can verify responder training submitting an 
Emergency Management Institute (EMI) Transcript Request.
