NIMS INSTRUCTOR PROGRAM
Instructor Application and Identification Process:
In 2008, The National Integration Center (NIC) specified that states have the responsibility of developing, maintaining, and sustaining the National Training Programs for NIMS. Besides spanning NIC and stakeholder responsibilities and actions, the plan defines the PROCESS for developing both training and personnel qualification requirements for emergency management response personnel:
The National Integration Center (NIC) specified objectives for program coordinators and stakeholders to identify and qualify NIMS Instructors in our state. In an effort to complete these objectives, the Oklahoma Office of Homeland Security has developed an application for the primary purpose of identifying qualified instructors.
If you wish to become a certified NIMS instructor in Oklahoma, please complete the application on page 6 of the NIMS Instructor packet and mail it to the Oklahoma Office of Homeland Security. Please include with the application all required documentation for verification. Upon approval of your application, you should receive an instructor card with your state NIMS Instructor number for the use in future course authorizations.
Following approval NIMS instructors must attend the first available NIMS instructor workshop for instructions on how to schedule NIMS courses as well as receive their CD with NIMS instructor materials. Workshops are scheduled three times a year, (early spring, summer and fall) at various locations across the state. These workshops are 1/2 day in length and you may register on line from our training Calendar website: http://www.ok.gov/homeland/courses/search_training_events.php

Instructor Renewal Process:
At this time the only requirement for renewal is that you attend at least ONE NIMS Instructor workshop during your 2 year instructor certification period. Workshops are scheduled three times a year, (early spring, summer and fall) at various locations across the state. Please complete a new NIMS instructor Application prior to your expiration date so that the OKOHS will have current contact information. Supporting NIMS instructor information does not need to be re-sent unless you are upgrading to a higher level of NIMS instructor. Instructors upgrading their NIMS instructor status are required to send all required documentation along with the application.
Additional Instructor Information:
NIMS Instructor Courses are designed for personnel with extensive Incident Management training and experience. Instructors may schedule and teach in-house NIMS courses at any time; however, they must submit the Course Request Form to OKOHS at firstname.lastname@example.org at least 6 weeks in advance of the start date to allow adequate time for materials to be produced and shipped to your location.
