Module Three: Navigating ROVER Pages and Menus. Running time: 7 minutes. “ROVER uses common application and data entry conventions. ROVER should be easy for anyone to navigate. The Main Menu Page and all sub-menu items contain these common page elements.” “Your name and location appear in the upper left corner of every ROVER page which contains a menu.” The name and location information in the upper left corner of the screen flashes to identify its location. “The Menu/History Bar is a horizontal, page-width bar that is located just below the ROVER logo. It consists of two lines of information.” The Menu/History Bar flashes to identify its location. “The top line shows the history, or path, that was followed to get to your current page location separated by hyphens.” “The lower line shows the options available at this location, separated by pipe stems.” “For example.” Curser moves to the Birth link on the Menu/History Bar and clicks it. The Menu/History Bar changes to the Birth selections. The curser moves to the New Live Birth link and clicks it. The Menu/History Bar changes to the New Live Birth selections. The curser moves to the Main link and clicks it. The Menu/History Bar returns to the original Main selections. “ROVER provides access to the facility's workload. This is called the To-Do Queue, or TDQ.” The TDQ section of the screen flashes to identify its location. “Current news messages appear on all Main Menu pages. These contain System News for all ROVER users and Group-Specific Messages. System News typically lists items on system upgrades, planned shutdown/back-up times, etc. Group-Specific Messages lists items applicable to your current login group. This is not location specific and will be seen by all users with access to that group.” The News Messages section of the screen flashes to identify its location. “Located in the upper right corner of the ROVER Main page is a Logout option. Once you've clicked it, the system logs you out and re-displays the login page.” The Logout link flashes to identify its location. “You should always log out before leaving your work area, even if only for a moment!” “To make it easier for you to enter cases, ROVER provides a variety of features that are used consistently throughout the application. These features include:” “Required information: Some information is required before you can continue to another field or process a transaction.” “Protected information: Information that you are not allowed to modify appears in gray text.” “Auto-populated information: ROVER automatically populates some fields based on data you entered or selected in a previous field.” Screen changes to a new birth record. “ROVER uses many messages to help guide you through your data entry. These messages may appear at the top of a page or as a separate window. Here are some examples:” Screen displays a dialogue box that reads “Child’s last name cannot be left blank. If Child’s last name is not known, enter unknown.” There is an OK button in the dialogue box. “Some fields are required. You must enter this information before you can move to another field or save a case. If you try to skip these fields, messages like this one will alert you to the problem.” Screen displays a dialogue box that reads “Child Birth Time cannon be left blank. If the time is unknown, enter 9999. If left blank, the record will be saved as unfinished. Click OK to continue to the next field, click CANCEL if you would like to correct your entry.” There is an OK button and a CANCEL button in the dialogue box. “Some fields can be skipped, but must eventually be answered before you can save a case as finished. Messages like this one will alert you to the problem and provide options for dealing with it.” “Tab Order: As you enter information on any page, your cursor will move through the fields in a predetermined order. This is called the tab order. You should use your Tab key to move forward through the fields and Shift + Tab to move backward. Using your Tab key is the recommended method of moving from field to field. This method allows for faster data entry than using a mouse to move the cursor.” “Page Navigation: Pages for ROVER are listed from left to right and top to bottom in a bar below the menu bar.” “ROVER has a Cancel button at the bottom of each page if you do not want to save your changes. Any previously saved information remains saved in the database.” The Cancel button flashes to identify its location. “When adding or modifying cases in ROVER you will notice that each data entry form has multiple pages.” The Page Tabs section flashes to identify its location. “Each page of the form contains multiple sections.” Each section of the page flashes in succession to identify their locations. “Each section will contain one or more fields.” One section of the page is highlighted. Each field within the section flashes in succession to identify their locations. The screen changes to a page of Page Tips. “When entering information into ROVER;” “You can open a page by clicking the page's name (blue tab) at the top of the form or by clicking the Next button to move forward through the pages or the Previous button to move back a page.” “Your cursor changes to a hand whenever it is over a link.” “You will be required to correct certain types of errors before you can continue.” “You will be reminded to enter information required for saving a complete case and what to enter if an actual value is unknown.” “The selections you make in drop-down lists may determine what appears in subsequent drop-down lists.” “Remember to click the Finish button to save the information or changes you made.” To continue to the next page, you must click a button that reads “Click Here to Continue.” The screen changes to a page of Data Entry Tips. “You can use your keyboard to make data entry a little faster. Here are some tips that you may or may not already know;” “Press End to go to the bottom of a page or list. Press your Page Down to move down a page.” “Press Home to go to the top of a page. Press Page Up to move partially up a page.” “Press Tab to move forward. Press Shift + Tab to move back.” “Drop-down list: Begin typing your selection until the list jumps to that selection.” “Checkbox: Use your spacebar to select or deselect.” “Press Alt + N to open the next page. Press Alt + P to open the previous page.” “Press Alt + Page Up to open the first page from any other page. Press Alt + Page Down to open the last page from any other page.” “Press Alt + T to insert the current date without having to type it in manually.” To continue to the next page, you must click a button that reads “Click Here to Continue.” The screen changes to a page titled “ROVER Warning: Please verify this is not a duplicate record.” “If you get this message:” “Step 1 – Review details shown for each listed record by clicking the Details link.” The Details link flashes to show its location. “Step 2 – If none of the listed records is yours, click Ignore and Continue Entry.” A button labeled Ignore and Continue Entry flashes to show its location. “Or if you find your record, or you want to investigate further before adding your record, click Abort Entry of Record, then click OK to end the transaction.” A button labeled Abort Entry of Record flashes to show its location. The screen changes to show two dialogue boxes. The top box reads “Expiration Notice – the record you are working on is about to expire. Your session will expire in 21 seconds,” followed by a Return to Menu button and a Return to Record button. The bottom box reads “record is expired. Since the document you are working on may be requested by another party, you are allowed to keep the document for a given amount of time with no activity.” “If you are not actively entering information or navigating the menu for an extended period, your session may be terminated. This feature is included for extra security should your work be interrupted and you have not logged out of the system. If you have an open case, you will be notified before ROVER closes to give you the opportunity to continue work.” “If you notice the above message and want to continue working, click Return to Record. If you miss this opportunity, ROVER will close the record automatically and you will see the message below.
