Module Two: Logging on to ROVER. Running time: 4 minutes 40 seconds. “When you go to the ROVER Internet site, you are at the Welcome Page. You begin the login process from this page. But before we log in, let's look at some of the features the Welcome Page has to offer. “ “At the left of the screen in the green area you will find contact information for the Vital Records Division and, at the bottom, contact information for the ROVER Help Desk. “ “At the bottom of the screen is a link to obtain free downloads of software you may need for ROVER to work. Let's click it and see what we find. “ Curser moves to “Click here” link and clicks it. Another dialogue box opens with software downloads listed. “You will find reference to software for a fingerprint reader. This is required for death certificates and does not affect you. However, you can also download the latest version of Adobe PDF Reader if you need it. Remember, it's free. Let's go back to the Welcome Page.” Curser moves to the red close box in the top right corner and clicks it. The software downloads dialogue box closes. The ROVER Welcome Page is on the screen. “Now let's review the login process. To begin, click the Login button.” Curser moves to the Login button and clicks it. The ROVER Login Page appears. “Type in your Username and Password. We will provide these for you when you register as a new user.” Username and Password are typed into the respective fields. Then the curser moves to the Log In button and clicks it. The ROVER Change Password Page appears. “After logging in for the first time, or when your password has been reset by a ROVER administrator, ROVER will prompt you to reset your password to one of your own choosing. The password must be 8 to 12 characters long and have at least one upper case letter, one lowercase letter, one number, and one special character.” “Please notice that, when you make your entries on this page, all of your keystrokes are represented by dots. You cannot see what you actually type. Therefore, please type carefully.” Dots are typed into the fields of Original Password, New Password, and Confirm New Password. Then the curser moves to the Continue button and clicks it. The ROVER Change Password Page remains with a notice that reads “The password has previously been used.” “The Password we tried to use was one we had already used previously. ROVER will not allow you to use the same ten previous passwords. Anytime there is a problem with your Password, read the message in this box to find out the problem. Let's try again.” Dots are typed into the fields of Original Password, New Password, and Confirm New Password. Then the curser moves to the Continue button and clicks it. The ROVER Change Password Page remains with a notice that reads “Your new passwords do not match. Please try again.” “We have to type our new Password twice. This time we made a typing mistake and the two didn't match. This is why you must be careful and type accurately. "Hunt and peck" if you must. Okay, let's try again. Dots are typed into the fields of Original Password, New Password, and Confirm New Password. Then the curser moves to the Continue button and clicks it. The ROVER Main Page appears. “When you successfully log in, you will go to the ROVER Main page. Your Password will be good for 90 days. When time draws near for it to expire, ROVER will give you warnings and the opportunity to change your Password before it expires.” “If you feel at any time that your Password has been compromised, you can change it. Begin by clicking System, then Change Password.” Curser moves to the System link and clicks it. The Change Password link appears and the curser clicks it next. The Modify a Password Page appears. “The procedure for modifying a Password is the same as for establishing the original Password.” The curser moves to the Current Password field and dots are typed into it. Dots are then typed into the New Password field, then the Retype New Password field. The curser moves to the Continue button and clicks it. The Modify a Password Page remains with a notice that reads “Your new passwords do not match. Please try again.” “Again, if there's a problem, read the message to find out what it is. Just as before, we mistyped our Password in one of the two fields.” The curser moves to the Current Password field and dots are typed into it. Dots are then typed into the New Password field, then the Retype New Password field. The curser moves to the Continue button and clicks it. The Modify a Password – Confirm Page appears. The curser moves to the Continue button and clicks it. A Password Page appears with a notice that reads “Your changes have been committed successfully.” The cursor moves to the Continue button and clicks it. The ROVER Main Page appears. “You have successfully changed your Password. Since we're finished for now, let's log out by clicking Logout in the top right hand corner. You should always log out before leaving your work area, even if only for a moment.” Curser moves to the Logout link located towards the top right hand corner and clicks it. The ROVER Logout Page appears with a notice that reads “You are logged out successfully. (or your session has expired)” There is a button titled “Go Back To ROVER.” “After you logout, you should completely exit by closing all open browser windows.” Curser moves to the red close box in the top right corner and clicks it.
