General Information for Applicants for Sanitarian or Environmental Specialist-in-Training

Registration as Registered Professional Sanitarian (RPS) or Registered Professional Environmental Specialist (RPES)

The blank application below is in .PDF format and may be dowloaded, printed out and used by an Enviornmental Specialist/Sanitarian-in-Training in applying for registration as a: Registered Professional Sanitarian (RPS) or Registered Professional Environmental Specialist (RPES) by any person qualifying under the provisions of the Oklahoma Sanitarian and Environmental Specialist Registration Act.

Please do not send the required fee with this application. Upon review and approval of an application, a successful applicant will be expected to remit the $20.00 registration fee before the certificate of registration will be issued.

Eligibility for registration:

Registered Professional Sanitarian (RPS) or Registered Professional Environmental Specialist (RPES): Have two (2) years of postgraduate, full-time experience working in the fields of public health or environmental protection; with a four-year baccalaureate degree with a major in public health, environmental health, environmental science, physical science, natural science, biological science, agricultural science, or an equivalent from an accredited college or university with at least thirty (30) semester hours of work in physical, natural and biological sciences, public health and/or environmental health or environmental protection or both environmental health and environmental protection. A letter from your employer verifying your experience in the field of public health or environmental protection since the time of receiving your degree must be attached to your application. The letter must state a description of your specific job duties and the dates of employment. If your experience is from more than one source, a letter from each source is required. Military experience may be verified by submission of copies of performance reports.

Registration of sanitarians and/or environmental specialists was created by statute in order to safeguard life, health and property, and to establish and protect the professional status of those persons whose duties in environmental sanitation call for knowledge of the physical, the biological, and the social sciences. Therefore, in evaluating the evidence submitted to it, the Sanitarian and Environmental Specialist Registration Advisory Council will carefully consider the applicants’ knowledge and understanding of the principles of sanitation and the sciences, together with such other qualifications as may be established by the State Board of Health in conjunction with the Sanitarian and Environmental Specialist Registration Advisory Council in accordance with the provisions of the statute.

All applications are due a minimum of 10 days prior to the Sanitarian and Environmental Specialist Registration Advisory Council meeting dates. Attached is a list of meeting dates.
