Long Term Care Programs In Oklahoma Alternatives
Nursing Facility. The nursing facility provides 24-hour skilled care and related services for residents who require medical or nursing care. These facilities are licensed under the Nursing Home Care Act, 63 O.S. Supp. 1998, Section 1-1901 et seq., and the Regulations for Licensure of Nursing and Specialized Facilities, OAC 310:675. Specialized Nursing Facility for Mentally Retarded Persons. This facility type meets requirements for a nursing facility and must provide specialized services and staffing to meet the needs of its clients. For copies of applicable Oklahoma law and rules, go to Nursing and Specialized Facility Licensure State License: Required Medicare/Medicaid Certification: Optional Specialized Nursing Facility for Alzheimer's Residents. This type of nursing facility provides services specifically for Alzheimer's disease and related dementia. Residential Care Home The residential care home offers or provides residential accommodations, food service, and supportive assistance. A residential care home may provide assistance with meals, dressing, bathing, and other personal needs, and it may assist in the administration of medications. However, it cannot provide medical care. These homes are licensed under the Residential Care Act, 63 O.S. Supp. 1998, Section 1-819 et seq. The assisted living center is a home or establishment that may provide assistance with personal care, medications, and ambulation. The center may also provide nursing supervision and intermittent or unscheduled nursing care. The assisted living center cannot provide 24-hour skilled nursing care as is provided in a nursing facility. It is licensed under the Continuum of Care and Assisted Living Act, 63 O.S. Supp. 1998, Section 1-890.1 et seq., and the Continuum of Care and Assisted Living Rules, OAC 310:663. The continuum of care facility combines the services of a nursing facility with an assisted living center or an adult day care center. It is licensed under the Continuum of Care and Assisted Living Act, 63 O.S. Supp. 1998, Section 1-890.1 et seq., and the Continuum of Care and Assisted Living Rules, OAC 310:663. It must also meet requirements applicable to nursing facilities assisted living centers, and adult day care centers, as applicable. The adult day care center provides health, social supportive, and recreational services to impaired adults for more than four hours per day. Of course, participants do not stay in the center overnight and do continue to live in their own homes. The center is licensed under the Adult Day Care Act, 63 O.S., Section 1-872 et seq., and the Adult Day Care Center Regulations, OAC 310:605 ( 54k .pdf ). State License: Required Hospice. The hospice program provides supportive and palliative care to terminally ill patients. It is medically directed and nurse–coordinated. The physical setting may be a home, an institution, or a health facility. The hospice program must comply with the Hospice Licensing Act, 63 O.S. State License: Required Medicaid Certification: None Home Care Agency. The home care agency provides skilled care and personal care services to clients in their residences. Skilled care includes services provided by a respiratory therapist and by other licensed personnel, including a registered or licensed practical nurse, physical therapist, occupational therapist, speech therapist, or social worker, The home care agency is licensed under the Home Care Act, 63 O.S. Supp. 1998, Section 1-1960 et seq., and the rules for Home Care Agencies, OAC 310:662. For information and copies of applicable Oklahoma law and rules, go to Medical Facilities Division. State License: Required Hospital-Based Skilled Nursing Unit. This service operates under authority of a hospital license issued pursuant to the Public Health Code, Article 7, Hospitals and Related Institutions (63 O.S. Supp. 1998, Section 1-701 et seq.). It provides services similar to a licensed nursing facility, but patients typically are admitted to the skilled nursing unit directly from acute care. Medicare reimbursement policy drives the development and operation of these units, as virtually all patients are Medicare eligible.
