Psychiatric/Chemical Dependency Treatment Certificate of Need

Psychiatric hospitals psychiatric and chemical dependency units in general acute hospitals must receive approval under Oklahoma’s Certificate of Need laws before:

Establishing a new facility,

  • Increasing psychiatric or chemical dependency treatment beds at an existing facility,
  • Converting existing beds to serve persons under age 18,
  • Transferring ownership or operation of a facility, or
  • Spending $500,000 or more on any project.

The Department reviews an abbreviated application for these types of projects:

Standard reviews are required for all other types of projects including new facilities.

During the 2003 - 2004 Fiscal Year, seven (7) Psychiatric/Chemical Dependency Certificate of Need applications were filed. Average review time for those applications, from application filing date to date of final decision, was 64 days.
