OHEC Meeting to Discuss Health Literacy and Wellness in Early Childhood

The Oklahoma Health Equity Campaign (OHEC) will meet to discuss “Tomorrow Begins Today:  Impacting Health, Literacy, and Wellness in Early Childhood” on Thursday, Aug. 22, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the Oklahoma State Department of Health (OSDH), 1000 NE 10th St., room 314 in Oklahoma City.  The meeting will focus on building supports for families around infant and early childhood mental health to improve life-long health and well-being. The meeting will discuss the relationship between early childhood development, brain development, and the lasting detrimental impact that early trauma has on a child’s life. The first five years are critical to brain development and a child’s ability to develop skills for school readiness and literacy.

One of the presenters will be Amy Chlouber, LPC. She is the Infant and Early Childhood Services Manager for the Oklahoma Department of Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services, and co-lead of the Oklahoma Infant and Early Childhood Mental Health Strategic Plan with the OSDH Child Guidance Service.  Her previous experience includes being a therapist specializing in infant and early childhood mental health, providing services to families in the child welfare system, training and support to child welfare workers, and being a content expert to the court.

Another presenter is Melissa Griffin, M.S., IMH-E®(I). She is the program coordinator for the Oklahoma Child Care Warmline, at the OSDH Child Guidance Service.  She provides consultation to child care providers, and child care trainings on challenging behaviors. Griffin.  She has experience as a therapist and as a trainer in areas that include domestic violence, victim’s services, child development, parenting, and family therapy.
