Nominations now open for the 2013 ‘Champions of Health’ awards   

(TULSA, Okla.) – Individuals, groups and organizations that are changing the health of Oklahomans through innovative programming are encouraged to apply for the 2013 Champions of Health awards. The awards program, which began ten years ago, has honored more than 100 projects and programs that are working to reverse the negative health statistics in the state.

Nominations for the 2013 awards opened May 13 and will be accepted through June 14. Nominations can be submitted online or by mail. There is no cost to enter. Details and complete requirements for nominations can be found on championsofhealth.org.

Champions of Health winners will be recognized at a gala in Tulsa in October. Nonprofit winners in select categories will receive a $5,000 contribution to their organization or program, and will be considered for the highest honor, the Dr. Rodney Huey Memorial Champion of Oklahoma Health Award. This recipient will receive $15,000.

The nomination categories include: Champion of the Uninsured, Champion of Children’s Health, Community Health Champion, Champion of Senior Health and Corporate Health Champion (small and large businesses divisions). Category description information is available online at championsofhealth.org.

The Champions of Health awards program is presented by the Oklahoma Dental Association, the Oklahoma Department of Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services, the Oklahoma Foundation for Medical Quality, the Oklahoma Hospital Association, the Oklahoma State Department of Health and the Oklahoma State Medical Association, in partnership with Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Oklahoma.
