OSDH to Conduct Statewide Exercise Testing Mass Medication Procedures and Medical Surge Capabilities

 

What:                         The Oklahoma State Department of Health will conduct a five-day
                                    exercise April 25-29, 2011, testing capabilities related to mass
                                    distribution of medication and medical surge in the event of a public
                                    health emergency.

When:                        April 25-29, 2011

Where:                       Exercise activities will occur at locations throughout the state. While
                                    this exercise
will not involve the public,citizens may see events
                                    such as escorted vehicles during the exercise.

Who:                          Participants include the Oklahoma State Department of Health and
                                    its 68 local county health departments, the Oklahoma City-County
                                    Health Department, Tulsa Health Department, numerous
                                    state and federal agencies, local emergency responders, medical
                                    facilities, military personnel and tribal organizations.

Background:           This exercise, named “Operation Raindrops,” will test Oklahoma’s
                                    public health and medical systems’ ability to coordinate responses
                                    to a public health emergency. A key component will be to
                                    demonstrate the ability to receive and distribute emergency medical
                                    supplies from the Strategic National Stockpile (SNS). The SNS can
                                    deliver medicine, vaccine and antidotes within 12 hours.
