Oklahoma Health Equity Campaign Receives Community Service Award

The Oklahoma Health Equity Campaign (OHEC) was recently awarded the distinguished Community Service award by the Interfaith Alliance Foundation of Oklahoma at its annual meeting in Oklahoma City. The Community Service award is given to individuals or groups that demonstrate exceptional care for the well being of the community during the past year.

The OHEC was selected because of its devotion to the social dimensions of health, which include the concerns for social justice and a healthier environment for all Oklahomans. According to the Interfaith Alliance Foundation of Oklahoma President Rev. Jeff Hamilton, it was the inclusion of those values that appealed to the Interfaith Alliance of Oklahoma’s Board of Directors and led to OHEC being selected. The elimination of systemic barriers to an equitable society is one of the core values of the Interfaith Alliance Foundation of Oklahoma.

“I am pleased to accept this award on behalf of our many public and private partners statewide that are involved in the OHEC campaign,” said Marisa New Wells, director of the Oklahoma State Department of Health’s Health Equity and Resource Opportunities. “We are constantly recruiting new organizations to join our efforts to enhance positive health changes for all Oklahomans.”

The Interfaith Alliance Foundation of Oklahoma is a non-partisan, clergy-led grassroots organization dedicated to promoting the positive and healing role of faith in civic life as well as challenging intolerance and extremism. As people of many faiths, the alliance respects religious diversity and works to make society more inclusive through public discourse and promoting diversity.
