Americans with Disabilities Act Amendments Act of 2008
“A New Attitude: The Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) Amendments of 2008” is the topic of the Thursday, Jan. 8, 2009, meeting of the Oklahoma Arthritis Network (OAN) at 2 p.m. at the Oklahoma State Department of Health (OSDH), 1000 N.E. 10th Street, Oklahoma City.
Guest speaker for the event will be attorney Bill Wells, of the Wells Law Firm, an Oklahoma City labor and employment law firm. Wells will discuss the first round of significant changes made to the ADA in its 18-year history. Those changes go into effect Jan. 1, 2009. Many of the changes were prompted by Congress’s dissatisfaction with a series of U.S. Supreme Court decisions that tended to narrow the scope of the ADA. Experts predict a significant increase in ADA litigation as a result of the changes. Wells will also address the recent changes to the Family and Medical Leave Act, and how those changes will interact with the ADA amendments.
Attorney Wells received his law degree from the University of Oklahoma College of Law and his bachelor’s in business administration in finance. He served four years as president of the Oklahoma Employment Lawyers Association and is an active member of the Oklahoma Bar Association and the Federal Bar Association.
