Area Nurse Wins Sixth Annual Laura K. Savage Award
For the second year in a row, Jo K. Singleton is the winner of the annual Laura K. Savage Creativity in Nutrition Education Award. Singleton is a registered nurse with the Grady County Health Department. The award was presented at the Oklahoma State Department of Health’s (OSDH) State WIC and Clerical Conference in Oklahoma City on Jan. 25.
Singleton was in competition with other WIC nutrition educators from across the state of Oklahoma. OSDH WIC Chief Terry Bryce presented the award to Singleton for her creative nutrition submission titled “Uses for Tomato and Vegetable Juices”.
In addition to winning the award, Singleton will travel to the National WIC Association’s Annual Conference in Pittsburgh, Pa., this spring to display her winning entry. “Uses for Tomato and Vegetable Juices” will be viewed by nutritionists nationwide.
The award is named in memory of Laura K. Savage, a nutrition education coordinator who died in a car crash in June 2001. The creative spirit of Ms. Savage was evident in the nutrition education ideas presented at the conference.
