FOR RELEASE: March 7, 2006
What: Public Health Day at the State Capitol
When: Wednesday, March 8, 2006
Where: State Capitol, 4th Floor Rotunda
Featuring: Oklahoma City-County Health Department, Tulsa City-County Health Department, and the Oklahoma State Department of Health will join together to demonstrate “public health at work” through a variety of exhibits and screening services.
Background: Over the last 100 years, the average life expectancy in the United States has increased by approximately 40 years, from age 46 to age 77.6. Only seven of those years can be attributed to improved disease care and management. The rest of this change is a direct result of public health interventions such as improved preventive care in the United States. In the 21st century, there are still many public health challenges affecting our population. Public Health Day at Oklahoma’s State Capitol will celebrate some of the successes of public health and note many of the challenges still remaining.
