Oklahoma State Department of Health Launches Seasonal Influenza Vaccination Campaign

What: News Conference tomorrow to launch the annual seasonal influenza vaccine campaign
When: Wednesday, Oct. 4, 2006
11 a.m.
Where: Oklahoma State Department of Health
1000 Northeast Tenth Street, Oklahoma City
Conference Room 307
Featuring: State Health Commissioner Dr. Mike Crutcher and other state and local public health officials
Background: The Oklahoma State Department of Health is preparing to launch its annual seasonal influenza vaccination campaign at public vaccination clinics across the state. Influenza is a serious disease that can lead to hospitalization and even death. State health officials estimate about 400 to 500 Oklahomans die each year from complications of influenza. The single best way to protect yourself and your loved ones is to get vaccinated. Flu vaccines are safe, effective and cannot cause the flu. This year there should be ample flu vaccine available through health care providers, organizations like the Visiting Nurses Association, as well as public flu clinics at local county health departments.
