Caddo County Public Health Nurse Wins Award

Jo K. Singleton, a registered nurse with the Caddo County Health Department, recently won the fifth annual Laura K. Savage Creativity in Nutrition Education Award. Singleton received the award at the Oklahoma State Department of Health’s (OSDH) State Women, Infants and Children (WIC) and Clerical Conference in Oklahoma City.

Singleton’s creative nutrition submission won the award in a competition of entries from across the state. Terry Bryce, OSDH State Interim WIC Chief presented her award.

The award is named in memory of Laura K. Savage, a nutrition education coordinator, who died while employed with OSDH WIC. The creative spirit of Ms. Savage was evident in the nutrition education ideas presented at the conference.

In addition to winning the award, Singleton will travel to the National WIC Association’s annual conference in Houston, Texas, this spring. She will display her winning entry, “Quick and Easy Meals With Beans” to be viewed by nutritionists nationwide.
