||This news conference will highlight Oklahoma’s efforts to organize public health and health care worker volunteers to assist the victims of Hurricane Katrina. The Oklahoma State Department of Health will be launching a recruitment drive for health care workers and health care professionals for service in hurricane-affected states now and in the weeks and months to come. Also during the news conference, the Oklahoma Department of Emergency Management will provide an update on its response to the hurricane-related resource and volunteer requests it has received. In addition, the Oklahoma State Department of Health will announce the availability of a temporary waiver of school and child-care facility immunization requirements for children displaced by Hurricane Katrina. The agency will also announce a policy change to allow the Women, Infants and Children’s (WIC) program to hasten certification for those hurricane victims who have temporarily relocated to Oklahoma and who qualify for WIC services.
