FluMist Now Available at _______ County Health Department
The __________ County Health Department has received additional doses of influenza vaccine. The vaccine is a live (virus), nasal spray, influenza vaccine called FluMist and is approved only for use in healthy people 5 to 49 years of age. Some individuals will not be able to take the FluMist vaccine due to certain health conditions such as asthma, reactive airways disease or other chronic disorders of the pulmonary or cardiovascular systems. In addition, individuals with underlying medical conditions such as diabetes, renal dysfunction and hemoglobinopathies, known or suspected immunodeficiency diseases or who are receiving immunosuppressive therapies or are household contacts with someone that is immunocompromised, as well women who are pregnant, should not take the vaccine.
“We encourage those who have not yet received the influenza vaccine and fit the criteria for the FluMist to consider using this method to get vaccinated against influenza. It is not too late to receive the flu vaccine. In Oklahoma, the influenza season can last as late as May,” said __________, County Health Department Administrative Director.
