For Release: April __, 2003
County Health Departments Recognize Nurses
“Nurses: Lifting Spirits, Touching Lives” is the theme for this year’s National Nurses Week, May 6 – 12. County health departments wish to recognize the ways in which nurses strive to provide safe and quality patient care.
“We are seeing a renewed emphasis on nursing in the areas of primary care, preventive care, home health care, and __________ in __________ County,” said __________ County Health Department Administrative Director (OR) District Nurse Manager. “ Nurses are part of the core foundation of public health activities in our communities providing health care for all ages. They are involved in a wide range of programs from infant immunizations and child guidance to bioterrorism preparedness,” __________ said.
According to state health officials, there are nearly 2.7 million registered nurses nationally, of which 620 are registered nurses who provide public health services in 77 Oklahoma counties.
“County health departments across the state would like to encourage local communities to join us in honoring nurses working in various settings like schools, hospitals, nursing homes, clinics and other public and private organizations, for their accomplishments and efforts to improve our health care system. We appreciate their professionalism, kindness and caring as they provide valuable medical services and comfort, and help fight against emerging health threats,” __________ said.
Public health nurses have been important assets in the network of health care delivery systems since the placement of the first public health nurse in 1919. Some of the services they provide include child and adult immunizations, preventive health screenings, monitoring and control of communicable diseases and chronic health concerns, services that assure healthier mothers and babies, child abuse prevention, and school health education.
“I would like to ask the community to join me in thanking not only our public health nurses, but all Oklahoma nurses who ‘Lift Spirits and Touch Lives’ on a daily basis,” said __________.
