AmCare Wind Down Claims Payment Scheduled

Former AmCare of Oklahoma, Inc. health care providers are receiving written notice from the Independent Manager for AmCare this week regarding the payment of pending claims. The notice for each claimant will identify the individual claims to be paid, provide information used to calculate each claim, and inform the providers of their appeal rights. The appeal process includes a 30-day appeal period. Following resolution of the appeals, payment of claims to providers will occur in late June 2003.

Also in late June, former members of AmCare Oklahoma will receive a notice informing them of their rights to file a claim(s) against a special $500,000 deposit. The deposit funds are intended for former members who have either paid, or have been billed, for medical services for which AmCare Oklahoma is responsible.

An injunction obtained by the Texas Department of Insurance against AmCare’s Texas management company in December 2002, temporarily delayed the wind down of AmCare Oklahoma. As a result, the anticipated payment of claims to Oklahoma health providers was postponed from February until June of this year. Prior to the injunction, AmCare’s management company provided support services for the wind down of AmCare Oklahoma. In order to minimize further delay in paying Oklahoma health care providers, the Independent Manager for AmCare Oklahoma has re-established the wind down through contract services.
