Office of Faith-Based and Community Initiatives Schedules Community Partners Conference

Oklahoma’s Office of Faith-Based and Community Initiatives will sponsor a half-day conference on “A New Opportunity: Partnering with State Agencies,” Tuesday, Nov. 12, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Prospect Missionary Baptist Church in Oklahoma City.

Hosted by Senior Pastor Reverend Lee E. Cooper Jr., the conference will present opportunities for better serving Oklahoma’s poor and underprivileged through collaboration among African-American clergy and government social service agencies.

Featured keynote speaker will be Dr. Henry Blake, President of the Louisiana Missionary Baptist State Convention and Elected General Secretary of the National Baptist Convention, who will share his personal experience in community development and the benefits of collaborating to help those in need. Dr. Blake is the former Dean of the Congress of Christian Education for the Louisiana Missionary Baptist State Convention, member of the Board of Directors for the National Baptist Convention, USA, Inc., and an instructor in the Congress of Christian Education for the National Baptist Convention, USA, Inc. He has served as pastor of the Mount Canaan Missionary Baptist Church since 1966 and is responsible for such community improvements as Canaan Village Apartments, Canaan Towers, Project Uplift House, and the Mount Canaan Baptist Church and Family Life Center.

All African-American clergy and community leaders who are interested in social issues are encouraged to attend this conference. A complimentary luncheon will be provided immediately following the conference.
