Beitsch Appoints New Administrator for Construction Industries Board

State Health Commissioner Dr. Leslie Beitsch announced today the appointment of Boyd West as the new administrator for the Construction Industries Board. West replaces interim administrator, Jerry Regier.

West was selected from a field of candidates to administer the Construction Industries Board, formed last year as a result of Senate Bill 354, which created a nine-member board to regulate the plumbing, electrical and mechanical trades, as well as building and construction inspectors.

West is a Certified Building Official with 25 years of construction management and code enforcement experience. He has been the Assistant Inspection Services Superintendent for the City of Oklahoma City since 1992. He will begin his new duties with the Construction Industries Board on Monday, Jan. 14.

Secretary Regier had served as interim administrator of the Construction Industries Board since last June, when he was asked by Gov. Keating to provide oversight during the board’s early organizational months. This followed a one-year appointment as Acting Director of the Oklahoma State Department of Health. He also served as the governor’s Cabinet Secretary for Health and Human Services for the past five years. He has resigned from the Cabinet as well as from the Construction Industries post effective Jan. 16.

Beitsch credited Regier’s leadership and organizational skills as being paramount in the Construction Industries Board’s success in becoming operational in short order. “I also appreciate Mr. Regier’s commitment to restoring integrity to the Oklahoma State Department of Health while serving as Acting Director, as well as his support for public health while Cabinet Secretary for Health and Human Services. We thank him for his service and wish him well,” Beitsch said.
