Bioterrorism and Anthrax Issues
Bioterrorism and Anthrax Daily Update 11/7/01:
- As of 1 p.m. today, the Public Health Laboratory of the Oklahoma State Department of Health had performed testing on 568 environmental samples for the presence of anthrax or biologic agents. All have tested negative for biologic contamination.
- The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention continues to report 17 confirmed cases of anthrax nationally, as well as 5 suspect cases. There have been four deaths associated with inhalational anthrax. Even though it has been more than a week since the last case of anthrax was reported, the level of vigilance by federal, state and local health officials has not diminished.
- The Oklahoma State Department of Health receives daily updates from the CDC and other government agencies regarding current issues in anthrax and other bioterrorism concerns. This information is posted on the Oklahoma State Department of Health's Web site at: http://www.health.state.ok.us/program/cdd/anthrax/anthrax.htm.
