- What is the National Pharmaceutical Stockpile? - Some citizens may have heard of the National Pharmaceutical Stockpile (NPS) and wonder what it is. The NPS is a large cache of antibiotics, other medicine and equipment that can be used in the event of a national emergency. These materials can be moved anywhere needed in the U.S. within 12 hours of notification. Recently, antibiotics from the stockpile have been used to treat persons exposed to anthrax.
- The Oklahoma State Department of Health receives daily updates from the CDC and other government agencies regarding current issues in anthrax and other bioterrorism concerns. This information is posted on the Oklahoma State Department of Health's Web site at: http://www.health.state.ok.us/program/cdd/anthrax/anthrax.htm.
