Bioterrorism and Anthrax Issues
Bioterrorism and Anthrax Daily Update 10/31/01:
- Results from environmental sampling at the U.S. Postal Service Maintenance Technical Support Center (MTSC) in Norman are still pending.
- As of 1 p.m. this afternoon, the Public Health Laboratory of the Oklahoma State Department of ealth had performed testing on 395 environmental samples for the presence of anthrax or biologic agents. All have tested negative for biologic contamination. Some law enforcement agencies have requested that specific items be returned, possibly for further action.
- The Oklahoma State Department of Health continues to monitor recommendations for managing anthrax exposures and treating anthrax cases. Today the agency faxed and emailed to hospital infection control practitioners, infectious disease physicians, and local county health departments a Health Advisory from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention concerning post-exposure prophylaxis for persons potentially exposed to anthrax. This information is available on the state health department Web site.
