Meaningful Use Laboratory Results for Reportable Diseases Message Submissions

Laboratory results indicating certain communicable diseases and pathogens are required to be reported to the OSDH. Please visit http://www.ok.gov/health/Disease,_Prevention,_Preparedness/Acute_Disease_Service/Disease_Reporting/What_to_Report/index.html for specific details on the list of diseases and pathogens that are reportable in the State of Oklahoma.

The OSDH is accepting reportable laboratory results using the latest HL7 v2.5.1 ORU^R01 messaging specification (HL7 Version 2.5.1 Implementation Guide: Electronic Laboratory Reporting to Public Health, Release 1 (US Realm) (electronic version in PDF) with errata) which is available at no cost at the following link: https://www.hl7.org/implement/standards/product_brief.cfm?product_id=98

To begin the process for submitting a message, please select the following link to the registration form. Once your completed registration form is received and processed, you will be contacted by an OSDH representative to schedule the kickoff meeting.

Additional Information

The OSDH is facilitating the transmission of reportable laboratory results directly from laboratories through Electronic Laboratory Result Reporting (ELR). The benefits include the automation and standardization of the laboratory reporting process, freeing up resources used for manual documentation and reporting, and the possible elimination of paper laboratory reporting. ELR  promotes more timely laboratory reporting, and can ultimately improve the validity and reliability of information for better case detection, surveillance, and disease investigation activities.
