The Oklahoma State Department of Health (OSDH) has designated hospitalizations of patients with a laboratory test result indicating influenza as the diagnosis and influenza-associated deaths as reportable conditions beginning September 1, 2009 pursuant to the Oklahoma Reportable Disease Rules (Oklahoma Administrative Code Title 310, Chapter 515, Section 1-6). OSDH will monitor reports of influenza-associated hospitalizations and deaths to better describe severe manifestations of influenza, monitor temporal trends of influenza-associated hospitalizations, and further evaluate risk factors for novel swine-origin influenza A H1N1 complications.
The purpose of the influenza statistics page is to provide weekly summaries of influenza information obtained from the OSDH influenza sentinel surveillance system, influenza test results from the OSDH Public Health Laboratory, and the number of influenza-associated hospitalizations and mortalities reported to the OSDH Acute Disease Service. Influenza statistics will be updated every Thursday morning at 10:00 a.m.
