Oklahoma Viral Respiratory Illness Sentinel Surveillance Summary
The level of influenza activity as measured by sentinel physician reporting and laboratory testing in Oklahoma is “No Activity” for the week ending October 11, 2008. This is based on the absence of laboratory confirmation of influenza by viral culture and a very low prevalence of influenza-like illness1 (ILI) as reported by sentinel providers. The percentage of visits to sentinel physicians due to ILI was less than 1% (0.71%, 22/3313) for this reporting period. There were no positive respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) tests reported by sentinel laboratories for this reporting week. Some adenovirus activity was detected in the Oklahoma County area.
1 Influenza-like illness is defined as having a fever (>100oF) and a cough and/or a sore throat. The temperature may be measured in the doctor’s office or at home
