Children First
The Children First program is a community-based voluntary family resource program, which offers public health services to families expecting to deliver and/or parent their first child. The program encourages early and continuous prenatal care, personal development, and the involvement of the fathers, grandparents, and other supporting persons in parenting.
Public Health Nurses provide home visitation services during pregnancy and the first two years of the child’s life. The nurses follow well-developed program protocols that focus on the following domains:

Life Course Development
Maternal Role
Family and Friends Support
Health and Human Services
Program goals are to produce healthy family members and enhance a family’s ability to care for itself, which leads to:
Improvement of pregnancy outcomes
Improvement of child health
Improvement of child development
Strengthened bond between child and parents
Achievement of personal goals
Improved utilization of and collaboration with community resources
