Child GuidanceChildren

The Child Guidance Clinic at the Pottawatomie County Health Department works with parents and children to prevent problems and to help strengthen families.

To achieve this mission, the Child Guidance Clinic provides behavioral health, child development, parent education, and speech-language pathology services to children and families.

Behavioral Health (Psychological Services)

  • Psychological evaluations for a variety of difficulties including Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder, school problems, and behavior problems.
  • Short-term treatment, including Parent-Child interaction Therapy, for children and families dealing with emotional, behavioral, and learning problems.
  • Consultation to parents day care workers, teachers, and other professionals on mental health related issues such as: abuse, stress management, and raising spirited children.
  • Adoption support and preservation services for families adopting through the Oklahoma Department of Human Services.
  • Support and assistance for school districts utilizing the Youth Risk Behavior Survey.
  • Screening and referrals to other providers as needed.

 Early Childhood Development And Parenting Education Services

  • Parent education and consultation on child development, guidance, discipline, play and learning activities, and family relationships.
  • Developmental assessments of children from birth to five years of age.
  • Groups and workshops on parenting and child development issues.
  • Consultations to groups, organizations, and other professionals who have questions about young children.
  • Referral of families whose children have special needs to other services such as: speech, hearing, and language services, psychological services, and medically related services.

Speech-Language Pathology Services

  • Free speech, language, and hearing screenings for children.
  • Family focused treatment for speech and language skill development for preschool children.
  • Parent education for individuals and groups on techniques to improve their child's speech and language skills including Hanen training and Baby Signs.
  • Consultation, workshops, and training with parents, childcare workers, or professionals on topics related to communication development and disorders.
  • Evaluations and referrals to other community services providers as needed.
  • Free hearing screening for infants using the latest technology.
  • Free hearing and middle ear functioning screening for children 12 and under.
  • Referrals to other services such as pediatricians, Ear Nose Throat Doctors (ENTs), providers of hearing aids, speech-language services, and other health related services.

Fees

The charge for services is based on family size and income.  Third party payments may apply.  The Child Guidance Clinic does not file insurance claims, but can provide the necessary documentation.  Services are not denied based on inability to pay.
